I have to admit, I have my problems with social media. I find it anything but social and feel that, for the most part, people make posts that fall into certain categories, especially those that use social media for personal use. I won’t disparage social media here completely; I have Facebook and thankfully have remained connected to people with whom I’d otherwise never talk due to life. I’ve also let some of my graduated students connect to my private instagram account.
I don’t post much on social media anymore that’s my own content. I also don’t post pictures of my son or family anymore as I’d prefer to protect them because photos are never erased from the internet, even when we think they are. Many of my students who are Zennials have commented on how social media has made social interactions more difficult because of the constant updates and lack of privacy.
On this note, I’m going to signal some fun Instagram accounts and YouTube videos that make me happy. I love weird stuff on social media. Some of these things have made me belly laugh. Some have just made me sit back and smile. I’ll also admit that sometimes, it’s really just about finding the right time and right person to share them with too – I send all the weird stuff to my son so we can laugh together.
I got a good laugh out of this hobbit rap. I’ve watched all the LOTR movies and have the extended versions at home. I’m pretty sure there are multiple versions of this out there. I am not sure that this is the best one because it’s come across my Instagram feed multiple times.
An Instagram account I came across this summer (or maybe spring) is cats_and_cowboy_hats. My first video of theirs that I saw featured one of my favorite fast food restaurants – Taco Bell.
Apparently these videos are AI generated, but hey, it’s cats doing martial arts.
I was watching YouTube the other night with my son and we ran across what seems to be a series of videos made by an unknown person and they just make me laugh. I don’t know if I’ll actually keep one on for the whole running time, but man, it’s fun.
In any case, I hope that for those of you who read this you get to have a laugh or two.
